The Kentucky football team is 6-0 for the first time since 1950. Reaching this milestone is significant, one many fans expected to reach Saturday night. What’s even more remarkable is how Kentucky remained undefeated.

The Wildcats completely dominated LSU.

Will Levis scored five touchdowns — three through the air and two on the ground — to bring the Kentucky offense back to life in a 42-21 victory. UK led by as many as 28 points in the fourth quarter before the Tigers picked up garbage time points.

Instead of suffering a post-Florida hangover, No. 14 Kentucky proved it’s one of the best teams in the country, setting up a matchup between SEC East unbeatens in Athens.

Fast Kentucky Start

Kentucky got exactly what they needed against a reeling LSU team. UK opened the game with a heavy-handed 1-2 punch. DeAndre Square’s strip sack was recovered by Josaih Hayes, leading to a Chris Rodriguez receiving touchdown. Brad White’s defense followed that up with a fourth down stop. Six plays later Kentucky had a 14-point lead.

Liam Coen’s Offense Clicks

The Kentucky offensive coordinator warned the BBN on Tuesday. “I keep telling them it’s going to click,” Coen said. “When it does click, it’s going to be special.”

Kentucky’s offense was special Saturday night.

Coen’s creativity with play-fakes got the LSU defense to bite, setting up wide open throws to Justin Rigg and JuTahn McClain. Levis was precise and decisive, picking up yards on the ground when necessary (including this incredible run). The Kentucky quarterback finished the night 14-of-17 for 145 yards and three touchdowns. Wan’Dale Robinson led the Wildcats in receiving with eight receptions for 60 yards and an impressive touchdown catch.

The Wildcats slightly changed up the running game and it worked masterfully, rushing for 330 yards against the Tigers. Implementing more outside zone than previously seen, Kavosiey Smoke played one of the best games of his career. He had four rushes of 10+ yards, including a 32-yarder, to gain 104 yards on the ground. In addition to his receiving touchdown, Chris Rodriguez had the seventh 100+ yard rushing game of his career. The SEC’s leading rusher finished the night with 147 yards and a scoring touchdown.

Fourth Down Stops

The Kentucky defense will technically only get credit for one turnover, but they should get four more. LSU turned it over on fourth down four times. Kentucky scored touchdowns following three fourth down stops.

It’s a Party

Kentucky doubled up LSU. They celebrated by playing Callin’ Baton Rouge at Kroger Field with three minutes on the clock The Wildcats will be a top ten, undefeated team when they travel to Athens next Saturday to take on the top-ranked team in the country. This is surreal, one might even say nirvana. Enjoy the thrill of victory, Big Blue Nation.
