To open up the 2022 season last Saturday, Kentucky football produced a 24-point victory over the Miami (OH) RedHawks, winning 37-13. It was a tough opening quarter for the ‘Cats, but the overwhelming talent on the UK sideline eventually took control of the game. By the end of the third quarter, Kentucky was rolling.

The team needed that impressive second-half performance. Not only to build some confidence for this Saturday’s matchup against No. 12 Florida in The Swamp but to impress the many talented recruits who were roaming the Kroger Field sidelines. A handful of those high schoolers even left town with scholarship offers in hand from the Wildcats coaching staff.

Let’s talk about them and the other prospects who earned Kentucky offers this week.

Class of 2024 offers

Micah Welch (RB) 5-9, 195 | Baldwin (Milledgeville, GA)
3-star: No. 400 overall, No. 30 RB

Already considered a top-500 player in the country, Micah Welch picked up his offer from Kentucky on Friday afternoon, which came from defensive backs coach Chris Collins. He already holds offers from the likes of Tennessee, South Carolina, Georgia Tech, Louisville, and Ole Miss, among others. Welch is also hearing from Georgia and Florida as his recruitment continues to heat up.

Jordan Floyd (OT) 6-7, 260 | Parkview (Atlanta, GA)

After picking up offers from Mississippi State and Ole Miss in back-to-back days during late July, Jordan Floyd soon caught the eye of the Kentucky coaching staff. The 6-foot-7 offensive tackle was in Lexington last Saturday to watch the Wildcats beat Miami (OH) before picking up an offer from Kentucky’s offensive line coach Zach Yenser and Coach Collins the following day. Georgia Tech also recently had Floyd on campus, bringing him to watch the Yellow Jackets take on Clemson earlier in the week.

Jay Harper (CB) 6-0, 170 | Valley (Valley, AL)

Similar to Floyd, Alabama cornerback Jay Harper is another high school junior who established himself as a legit player over the summer. UAB reached out with his first-ever Divison I scholarship back in August and he’s since pulled in an offer from Marshall. On Tuesday, Harper announced that Coach Yenser had extended him an offer on Kentucky’s behalf, his first from a Power 5 program.

Auburn also appears to be expressing significant interest. Harper will visit the Tigers this Saturday for their matchup against San Jose State.

Class of 2025 offers

CJ Wiley (WR) 6-4, 190 | Alpharetta (Alpharetta, GA)

He’s only a high school sophomore, but CJ Wiley is on track to be a big-time recruit soon. The versatile athlete holds offers from the likes of Florida State, Miami (FL), Georgia Tech, and Louisville. Like Floyd, Wiley was in Lexington over the weekend for Kentucky’s season opener and received an offer that Sunday. Coach Collins was the one to extend the scholarship. Wiley is also communicating with wide receivers coach Scott Woodward, running backs coach John Settle, and defensive line coach Anwar Stewart. Wiley made the trip to Georgia Tech, one of his first offers, after his Kentucky visit.

Wiley comes from a football family, too. His father, Chuck Wiley, was a defensive end at LSU from 1994-97 and an eventual third-round NFL Draft pick who played seven seasons in the league across four franchises.

Eli Owens (TE) 6-2, 230 | Alcoa (Alcoa, TN)

The Kentucky football staff is familiar with the Alcoa, TN region (and not just because of Randall Cobb). Another prospect they have their eyes on is Eli Owens, a versatile 6-foot-2 tight end already drawing attention from major programs. Tennessee offered him in April and then hosted him multiple times over the summer. Michigan also offered earlier in the year and quickly got him on campus for a visit. The likes of Cincinnati, Central Michigan, Michigan State, and Mississippi State have all offered him, too.

Kentucky, led by associate head coach Vince Marrow and wide receivers coach Scott Woodward, offered Owens following his visit to Lexington over the weekend. He was one of the many prospects mentioned above who came to watch the Miami (OH) game and left with a scholarship. This wasn’t the first time Owens has been in town, either. He came to Kroger Field last fall for a game visit.
