The Kentucky football program is unexpectedly losing a former blue chip recruit 11 days before the transfer portal window closes. On3’s Matt Zenitz reports Kobi Albert has entered the transfer portal.

Kobi Albert was a huge coup for the Cats on Signing Day to close out the 2022 recruiting class. The long-time Auburn commit flipped to Kentucky, surprising many from his hometown of Fairfield, Al. He made the move even though his primary recruiter, Jon Sumrall, was hired by Troy just a few weeks prior.

A two-way star in the Birmingham metro, the 5-foot-10 speedster was a four-star recruit in two of the four major recruiting services. A top 500 recruit, the On3 Consensus ranked Albert as the No. 17 athlete in the 2022 class.

Kobi Albert was not one of the immediate impact players from the highly-touted Kentucky freshman class, but he did play in almost every game for the Wildcats this fall, primarily on special teams. He tallied three tackles, with two in the Music City Bowl against Iowa. Kentucky was able to withstand multiple injuries at safety because of the depth developed at that position. That’s taking a hit following Albert’s departure. Do not be surprised if the new regime at Auburn tries to bring Albert home this offseason.
