Kentucky Gymnastics' season ends at NCAA Championships

A trio of Kentucky Wildcats competed at the NCAA Gymnastics Championship in Fort Worth, TX on Thursday to put the final stamp on the 2022 season. Raena Worley, Cally Nixon, and Hailey Davis represented Kentucky at the individual championships, with all three competing in the second session of the semifinals.

Worley competed in the all-around competition against other standout athletes across the NCAA and rotated with the SEC Champion Florida Gators. The junior out of Virginia had a strong showing and competed in Olympic order, beginning with vault.

On vault, Worley scored a 9.825 followed by two consecutive 9.850s on uneven bars and balance beam. Her highest score was on the floor, a 9.9125, which placed her in the top-10 overall on the floor and in the top-20 in the all-around event.

Worley’s highest score was marked this season in the NCAA Regionals, where she scored a 39.700 to best Auburn’s lead scorer and former Olympic Gold Medalist Suni Lee. Worley finished in 12th place in the all-around event.

Senior Cally Nixon competed on the bars event and earned an 9.825, leaving her with a 38th finish overall. The Miami, FL product recorded a high-flying season on bars, scoring a career-tying-high of 9.975 in a tri-meet against Georgia, Central Michigan, and Illinois.

Sophomore Hailey Davis made her NCAA debut on the floor exercise, where she scored a 9.850, placing her just out of the top 20. The North Carolina native consistently score at 9.900 or above this season, making her a floor competitor to watch in her upcoming junior season.

Both Nixon and Davis rotated with the Auburn Tigers at the NCAA Championships.

The final round of competition finished off a historic season for the ‘Cats, with the 2022 season being the best in program history. After the final round of the NCAA Championships on Saturday, the Oklahoma Sooners took home the national title, besting Florida with a score of 198.200 to 198.0875.
