Kentucky helps ease the pain for many of our woes

In the 2010-11 season, I was recovering from open-heart surgery. In the 2011-12 season I was in recovery from a car accident that shattered my leg. In the 2012-13 season I was in recovery from the loss of my (almost) father in law.
But I had the Cats to help get me through those times. That might seem weird to some, but I know Kentucky fans understand.
Each member of the Big Blue Nation has their own unique story. All of us have suffered from a wide variety of hardships and injuries, but most of us get a type of therapy that is the same. Watching the Cats.
Earlier this week, a lady called into the daily show and said something that stuck with me. She said that Kentucky basketball gives us the chance to forget all of our woes - our injuries, our heartaches, our money problems. She was right. For most of us Kentucky is our get away for two hours (or six if you listen to pre- and post-game shows) on gamedays.
Even when we are at our lowest, we can still manage to smile when the Cats play. The happiness is what keeps us coming back.
This post was partially inspired by a Washington Post article I found the other day on coping with the loss of loved ones as part of the BBN and using Kentucky as a coping go-to. The Post interviewed several Kentucky fans on their losses - I believe one was even in the Sixth Man. Here is an excerpt:
