For the first time in two years, bleachers were filled underneath Friday night lights across the Commonwealth for Kentucky high school football action. Plenty of highlights were produced, especially in Kroger’s KSR Game of the Week.

Kaden Moorman, a talented junior running back that’s being recruited by Kentucky, scored three touchdowns for Franklin County and racked up 89 yards on only 11 carries to propel the Flyers past Scott County 42-13. See some of the game’s best moments through the lens of Bradley “B-Roll” McKee.

Ty Bryant Shines

Thursday evening Ty Bryant became the third Frederick Douglass Bronco to commit to Kentucky in the last year. A junior wide receiver/ defensive back, he looked the part right away. Bryant opened the season with a pick six in Douglass’ 27-14 victory over Bryan Station.

West Kentucky Shootout

Louisville St. X made a trip to Western Kentucky to take on the state’s top-ranked quarterback. After Owensboro fell behind 17-0, Gavin Wimsatt rallied the Red Devils to tie the game at 24 after two quarters. That sentence doesn’t illustrate just how mad the final minutes of the first half were: both teams combined to score three touchdowns and kick a field goal in the final 71 seconds.

Ultimately, the Tigers had too much firepower for Owensboro. A Wimsatt touchdown pass tied the game at 31 in the third quarter before St. X rattled off three straight touchdowns. The Rutgers commit completed 23-of-37 passes for 283 yards and three touchdowns. He also rushed for a 27-yard score.

St. X senior quarterback Jack Sivori threw three touchdowns to Michael Duddy and rushed for 165 yards and three scores to help St. X pull away in the second half with a 51-38 win.

Down Goes Trinity (and Fred Cowgill)

Without Bob Beatty on the sideline for the first time in 21 seasons, Trinity lost a shootout 49-38 to Carmel (In.). Rolling out 11 new starters on defense, the Shamrocks allowed more points Friday night than they did in ten games last season (48).

The night got off to a scary start on the sidelines. On Trinity’s first play from scrimmage Armon Tucker was pushed out of bounds, rolling into long-time WLKY sportscaster Fred Cowgill. The seasoned vet was put in an air cast and carted off the field. Despite the injury, Cowgill remains in good spirits.
