Jac’Qawn McRoy visited Kentucky for spring practice on Tuesday and it’s a big deal. It’s not just because of his recruiting ranking. He’s one of the largest high school kids playing football in America.

Yes, that might be a little hyperbolic. However, every time I walk past Deone Walker, the hamster wheels in-between my ears struggle to comprehend this Goliath’s size and athletic ability. That familiar feeling returned when I bumped into McRoy in Lexington. McRoy is one of the few people on Earth that can stand next to Walker and look like a normal human being.

Jac’Qawn McRoy is listed at 6-foot-8, 340 pounds. Those numbers feel insignificant. I have not seen McRoy play football, but I’m convinced he could block a boulder into the Grand Canyon and dam up the Colorado River.

Wow.

Now that I’ve got that out of my system, allow me to share the more important information about this significant Kentucky football recruit. Jac’Qawn McRoy is a four-star prospect from Pinson, Al. He’s the No. 229 player in the 2024 recruiting class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s ranked as high as the No. 3 offensive tackle in the country by 247 Sports.

Last month McRoy cut his list of schools to ten. Kentucky is a finalist along with Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Miami, Ole Miss, Oregon, and Tennessee. Shortly after breaking the news, he had plenty of nice things to say to On3’s Chad Simmons about the Wildcats.

Kentucky is my day one school. They were the first to offer and that means a lot to me,” McRoy said. “The coaches that offered me have moved on to other jobs, but coach (Zach) Yenser is my guy now and he is coming after me hard.”

Offensive tackle is a priority position for Kentucky in the 2024 recruiting cycle. After hosting McRoy last September, Kentucky appears to be in a good place as McRoy’s recruitment heats up.
