Kentucky-Iowa has the lowest point total in college football history

With two of the top defenses in college football going head-to-head at this year’s Music City Bowl, fans can expect a low-scoring affair between Kentucky and Iowa in Nashville. Both teams rank among the top 20 in total defense and points allowed, while both offenses are among the worst nationwide, ranking outside the top 100 in scoring and total offense.

Adding to those low-scoring expectations and offensive concerns, today Will Levis made it official that he will not suit up for Kentucky in Nashville, leaving the Wildcats with three inexperienced backups to take the reins against the Hawkeyes. Chris Rodriguez‘s availability is uncertain, too.

Then when Iowa has the ball, Kentucky’s defense will face Iowa’s third-string quarterback due to a shoulder injury to starter Spencer Petras and the departure of Alex Padilla to the transfer portal. Iowa will start redshirt freshman Joe Labas or true freshman Carson May instead. Neither has thrown a pass in their college careers.

Considering all those factors, oddsmakers set a low point total on the Music City Bowl and bettors have already pushed the line even lower, from the opening number of 33.5 down to 31 at many books, including DraftKings, BetRivers, UniBet, and Barstool Sportsbook. The over/under sits at 31.5 on most other boards.

As it stands now, the Music City Bowl will make history with the lowest point total college football has ever seen, beating out the Iowa-Northwestern game earlier this season. That Big Ten showdown went under its 31.5 total by a touchdown with 23 combined points in the November 19 game.

So who’s crazy enough to bet the Music City under? I know of at least one person who’s that sick in the head. It’s me. I am sick enough to bet under 31.5 because I already did.

A fun prop bet for December 31

If sports gambling were legal in Kentucky (and not the devil), a fun prop bet for Big Blue Nation would be Oscar Tshiebwe rebounds in the Louisville game or Iowa points in the Music City Bowl.

I’d throw a little on Oscar rebounds.
