The Governor’s Cup got off to a hot start, but cooled to a simmer. Each team scored on its first possession before the defenses produced stops. Kentucky leads at the break 24-7 thanks to three Will Levis rushing touchdowns.

A limited possession game, Kentucky’s defense came up big in the middle of the first half. The defensive line tipped a pass on fourth down to force a turnover on downs. On the following drive the Cats pressured Malik Cunningham into an errant throw on third down, resulting in a three-and-out.

Louisville had a scoring opportunity at the end of a two-minute drill before half. Facing a third and two, Josh Paschal ate up Cunningham on a speed option. The tackle for loss forced a 49-yard Louisville field goal attempt that missed wide left.
