Kentucky loses series 1-2 against Alabama

Despite the strong matchup, Kentucky could only conquer one win out of the three games. The Roll Tide came into the series with a 27-9 overall record and an 8-5 record in the SEC, while Kentucky had a 25-9 overall record and a 4-6 SEC record. After the first game on Friday was postponed, the Cats played two big games on Saturday. In the first game, Kentucky came out on top with a 2-1 win. Defensively, the Wildcats had a strong pitching performance. Meagan Prince picked up her tenth win of the season and tossed 5.1 innings, allowing only three hits and one run. Offensively, Darington Richardson and Erin Rethlake scored the runs of the game, while Griffin Joiner and Kara Howard added hits. Brooklin Hinz and Ansley Smith also contributed a RBI. In the second game of the day, Alabama won 7-3 over the Cats. Defensively, Kelsey Nunley allowed seven hits and five runs. Offensively, many Kentucky players made big plays but could not surpass the Roll Tide’s lead. Christian Stokes and Howard each provided one run, while Maisie Steed added a run and a hit. Many players also contributed hits. Ray had three overall and Nikki Sagermann and Smith had one each. Ray also added an RBI. Today, the Cats played their final game of the series and lost 2-0. Alabama had a strong defensive game only allowing two hits and no runs. Nunley pitched for the Cats and allowed six hits and two runs. Offensively, Sagermann and Howard provided the only hits of the game. Kentucky plays tomorrow at John Cropp Stadium in a double-header against Florida Atlantic.
