The Wildcats were one of four hats on the table, but they could not lock up a commitment from Rayshaun Benny. The four-star lineman will stay in his home state to play college football for Mel Tucker at Michigan State.

Last year Benny was a teammate with Justin Rogers at Oak Park High School just outside of Detroit, the same alma mater of Marquan “Bully” McCall. To secure the commitments from each four-star prospect from Michigan, Steve Clinkscale gave Rogers and McCall the opportunity to play defense, where many other schools preferred the players to stay on the offensive line. By the third go around, at least one local school figured out how to use that pitch to keep a player home.

A two-way player considered as a Top 200 player nationally, Clinkscale had multiple “ins” with Benny, but ultimately the home state pull was too much to overcome for Kentucky.

The start of football’s Early Signing Period is Dec. 16, jut over six weeks away.
