Kentucky moves up the bracketology ladder

With most of the top ten losing last week and the Cats holding serve, it makes sense that, in addition to moving up the polls, Kentucky would also jump up a line or two in the bracket projections. That's what happened, as the Cats rose from a #4 to a #3 seed in the latest prognostications from ESPN's bracketology. They're in a very manageable bracket, although the top seed, Texas, is playing as well as any team in the country right now. The other high seeds are all very beatable, as #2 San Diego State, #4 Purdue and #5 West Virginia are good, but not head and shoulders above Kentucky. A potential second-round matchup with Georgetown could be difficult, but if you're like me and think that Georgetown is unbelievably overrated then it doesn't seem so tough. Overall, if this is how the bracket broke down on selection Sunday, we'd have to feel pretty good about Kentucky's chances of making a deep run. One interesting note is that the SEC, long written off as the worst of the major conferences this season, actually placed five teams in the bracket, with Alabama making its debut as the #12 seed in the Cats' region. That gives the league the same amount of bids as the Big 12 and ACC, and at least for a few minutes tricks people into believing that the SEC West has respectable basketball. Georgia is still under consideration and would give the SEC a half-dozen teams, but they've been unable to follow-up the signature win over Kentucky and are still on the outside looking in. The other SEC teams are Florida (5) Vanderbilt (6) and Tennessee (7). Kentucky's other opponents came is as follows: 2-UConn 3-Notre Dame 4-Louisville 5-Washington 7-North Carolina Here is the link to the complete bracket and here is the Cats' region: bracket-1-31
