The last series of the regular season did not go as planned for Kentucky baseball. The Bat Cats dropped two of three against Florida to fall to 36-17 (16-14) with the postseason arriving this week. Nick Mingione will now take his squad to Hoover to begin the SEC Tournament against Alabama on Tuesday.

Luckily, the Cats appear to have a solid seed already wrapped up before playing a game in the SEC Tournament.

Kentucky is currently on the outside looking in at a national seed, but Kentucky Proud Park should be hosting a regional for the first time in its short history next weekend.

No. 9 seed Kentucky

D1 Baseball has dropped another bracket projection before all of the conference tournament action begins this weekend. Kentucky checks in at No. 9 overall and would open the NCAA Tournament in Lexington.

  1. Wake Forest
  2. Florida
  3. Arkansas
  4. LSU
  5. Stanford
  6. Clemson
  7. Vanderbilt
  8. Virginia
  9. Kentucky
  10. Coastal Carolina
  11. Miami
  12. Auburn
  13. Oklahoma State
  14. Alabama
  15. Boston College
  16. Texas

In the Lexington pod, UK would be joined by Indiana State, Notre Dame, and Morehead State. If the Cats advanced to a Super Regional, they would face the winner of the Virginia pod to lock in a trip to the College World Series.

After a rough stretch to end the season, things will not get any easier at the SEC Tournament. Kentucky draws Alabama in the opening round. The Tide are on quite the run in recent weeks and are now a projected host.

Kentucky has fallen to No. 2 in RPI

The losses have finally caught up to Kentucky in the Ratings Percentage Index (RPI). With Wake Forest surging, UK has fallen to No. 2 overall in RPI.

Kentucky is 6-4 over its last 10 games with an 11-11 road record. The Wildcats have the No. 1 strength of schedule and own 20 Quadrant 1 wins. Nick Mingione’s squad is a lock to get into the Big Dance.

At the NCAA Tournament, UK will finally be able to get out of the SEC gauntlet and that is an area where this team has performed well. The Bat Cats own a 20-3 record in non-conference play and that could lead to some solid results next week.

Postseason baseball is coming to the Bluegrass.
