One of the best high school players in the country has an interesting connection to the University of Kentucky.

Lebbeus Overton, a consensus five-star prospect and top 10 recruit from the class of 2023, picked up an offer from Kentucky Football late Wednesday night. Clocking in a 6-foot-4, 265 pounds, the defensive lineman is ranked by On3 as the No. 6 overall player in his class, No. 1 overall by both 247 Sports and ESPN, and No. 7 overall by Rivals. Overton plays both football and basketball for Milton High School in Alpharetta, GA.

But Kentucky has offered high five-star prospects in the past, so what makes Overton different? Well, his mother, Eunice Thomas, played volleyball at UK (and was quite good at it) in the early 1990s.

Overton’s connection to Kentucky goes beyond it being his mother’s alma mater, too. You might have noticed that he tagged former Kentucky player Donte Rumph in his offer tweet, who is now a football trainer in the Alpharetta area.

Overton comes from an athletic family; his dad, Milton, was an offensive lineman at Oklahoma from 1991-94 and his brother, Micaiah, is a current defensive lineman at Liberty.

What does this all mean? It’s hard to say. Overton is a BIG time recruit–one who already holds offers from the likes of Alabama, Clemson, Florida, LSU, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Texas, USC, and every other school in the country. He’s already made summer trips to see Clemson, Alabama, Georgia, Oklahoma, Ohio State, and Texas A&M.

The good news is he’s only a rising junior, meaning there is plenty of time left for the Kentucky coaching staff to make their pitch. The ‘Cats have some relationships that could help them in the long run.
