Kentucky Weekly Recruiting Rundown: 8/23-8/30

Kyle Wiltjer, a 6-foot-9 power forward from Oregon, has committed to Kentucky. Kyle made a surprise announcement during halftime of the Boost Mobile Elite 24 game on ESPNU. The game took place in Venice Beach where Wiltjer dropped twenty points. He chose the 'Cats over Wake Forest, Texas, California, Gonzaga and others. While most were surprised that he committed to Kentucky, Wiltjer clarified that he wanted to play around great players. He has never visited the campus but hopes to soon. Michael Gilchrist, a 6-foot-7 small forward from New Jersey, remains committed to the Wildcats. While he tweeted that he would be taking three official visits in the future, his mother clarified this. She indicated that Michael would not, in fact, take those visits and that he will attend Kentucky in 2011. With Michael and Kyle on board, they will be accompanied by Anthony Davis and Marquis Teague in the 2011 class. One open spot remains for the Wildcats to fill. Chane Behanan, a 6-foot-6 forward from Kentucky, picked up his biggest offer thus far. Coach Calipari and staff extended a scholarship offer Behanan's way. While they are not his favorite, he really likes Kentucky. The former Cincinnati pledge, who dominated NBPA Top 100 camp back in the spring, now has offers from Cincinnati, Louisville, Ohio State, Purdue, West Virginia, Kentucky and multiple others. Chane will most likely attend the big Louisville-Kentucky basketball game on New Year's Eve as both schools are recruiting him hard. Will he be the last piece t0 the puzzle? DeAndre Daniels, a 6-foot-8 small forward from California, has decided to remain in the class of 2011. Daniels, who considered reclassifying back into 2010, made the decision to become a post-graduate. Daniels enrolled at IMG Academy in Florida over Brewster Academy and others. While there were rumors of him visiting UCLA and USC, Daniels denied those. While Kentucky was involved and ultimately missed out, it does not look like they will land the him with the commitment of Wiltjer. Daniels was formerly committed to Texas. Adonis Thomas, a 6-foot-6 small forward from Tennessee, has cut down his list and Kentucky is out of the running. Thomas, who was considered a long shot to go to Kentucky, is looking at Memphis, Tennessee, Arkansas, Kansas, Florida and UCLA. He will take an unofficial visit to Memphis this weekend. Austin Rivers, a 6-foot-4 shooting guard from Florida, is no longer considering Kentucky. As he has set four visits to Duke, Florida, Kansas and North Carolina, the Wildcats are the lone team that has been ruled out. Rivers had originally pledged to Florida.
