Kentucky Weekly Recruiting Rundown: 9/14-9/17

Shabazz Muhammad, a 6-foot-5 shooting guard from Nevada, has had quite an array of visitors for his workouts. The impressive 2012 player is one of the top in his class. Recently, schools like Kentucky, North Carolina, Arizona State, Arizona, UNLV, Memphis and UCLA have been in the gym to watch Shabazz. Although Kentucky has not reportedly offered him yet, they could soon. Muhammad is being pursued by Duke, Texas, North Carolina, Memphis, Louisville, UCLA, Arizona, Kentucky and a number of other schools. Amir Williams, a 6-foot-9 power forward from Michigan, is no longer considering Kentucky as an option. While it was unclear whether or not Williams had an offer from the Wildcats, he was interested. Now, a few teams are getting in on him as he starts to pickup in the recruiting process early in his senior year. Right now, Amir is looking at Arizona, Duke, Florida, Ohio State, Miami, Oklahoma, Purdue and a few others. Negus Webster-Chan, a 6-foot-6 forward from Canada, could be the next Canadian in line for Kentucky. While they have not offered the junior just yet, he is going to be on campus soon. Webster-Chan will take an unofficial visit to the Kentucky campus this weekend. Negus recently enrolled at Huntington Prep in West Virginia where he will star for Rob Fulford's team. West Virginia, Iowa State, Ohio State, Georgetown and others are into Negus, as well. Tony Wroten, a 6-foot-4 shooting guard from Washington, hasn't done anything related to Kentucky in a while. He recently had an in-home visit with Washington coach Lorenzo Romar. Wroten has some upcoming visitors in Villanova and Louisville. At this point, Kentucky might not focus on the class of 2011 anymore. Wroten seems as if he is leaning towards his home school in Washington. Trevor Lacey, a 6-foot-3 shooting guard from Alabama, has seen nothing change in his recruitment and continues to have the same five or six schools pursuing him. Rodney Purvis, a 6-foot-3 point guard from North Carolina, is interested in Kentucky and has ties with one of the greatest Wildcats. Purvis and John Wall have a big brother-little brother relationship and have had it for a while. Purvis, a class of 2013 star, has heard from Kentucky a little but has not received an offer. Rodney holds offers from schools like Wake Forest, Virginia, Memphis and others while Duke, Louisville and North Carolina are showing interest. The Wildcats may have the next John Wall in their mirror though. Dakari Johnson, a 6-foot-8 power forward from New York, is arguably the best incoming freshman in the country. Johnson lives in New York and will attend high school in New Jersey, with Michael Gilchrist, but has Kentucky ties. The big man spent his middle schools day in the state of Kentucky and has been around UK now for a few years. While it is very early in the recruiting process, Johnson has no favorites but he really likes Kentucky. It's to early to tell but remember Dakari's name for the future.
