Did you know next Wednesday is National Signing Day? Probably not. Prior to the creation of the Early Signing Period, the first Wednesday of February was a holiday of sorts. Its impact has been greatly diminished by the new college football calendar, but the Cats could still sign a few prospects, including Noah Matthews.

A three-star defensive lineman from Delaware, Matthews is expected to be in Lexington this weekend for an official visit. In addition to Kentucky, Matthews is also being pursued by former UK assistant Andy Buh at Illinois. A late riser in the recruiting ranks, the 6-foot-5, 250 pound defensive lineman was previously committed to Weber State.

Brad White has already secured one commitment from a Delaware defensive lineman, Tomiwa Durojaiye. The UK signee was Delaware’s 3A Defensive Player of the Year, while Matthews was an all-state selection and the 2A Defensive Lineman of the Year in class 2A for Woodbridge.

There are at least two other players on UK’s radar as the 2022 recruiting calendar nears its conclusion. Florida commit Jalen Farmer officially visited Kentucky in December. Since then he’s visited Auburn and a trip to Alabama has been scheduled for this weekend after he recently picked up an offer from the Crimson Tide. Eric Wolford has a tall task at hand.

Elsewhere, White is trying to flip Iowa State commitment R. Mason Thomas to Kentucky. A four-star, top 300 edge from Ft. Lauderdale, Thomas is also being targeted by a couple of new head coaches, Mario Cristobal at Miami and Brent Venables at Oklahoma. The Sooners seem to have momentum, but Thomas tells On3’s Chad Simmons that he loves what White brings to the table. The UK defensive coordinator conducted an in-home visit on Monday.

“Coach White is a great coach. He came from the NFL, he has recruited me hard, and he knows a lot about players at my position. I like coach White’s knowledge and how he knows the game.”
