The Bat ‘Cats continue to float on the NCAA Tournament bubble, but another big win on Friday has the program riding positive momentum with more resume-building opportunities ahead. Kentucky Baseball, which entered the 2022 SEC Tournament as a 12-seed, knocked the eight-seed Vanderbilt Commodores out of the conference’s postseason with a dominant 10-2 victory.

With the win over the ‘Dores, Kentucky (32-25; 12-18 SEC) advances to the fourth round of the SEC Tournament where they will play on Saturday against the loser of Friday night’s contest between 4-seed LSU and top-seed Tennessee.

UK upset the Volunteers earlier this month in thrilling fashion (the only team this season to win a series against UT), winning two of three games at Kentucky Proud Park. The ‘Cats actually lost to LSU not even 24 hours ago in the SEC Tournament after not playing each other during the regular season. Following a lengthy weather delay, the Tigers won that contest easily 11-6 in a game that didn’t end until roughly 1:30 a.m. EST time Friday morning.

Below is the current bracket ahead of Friday’s third game between 2-seed Texas A&M and 11-seed Alabama. First pitch between LSU and Tennessee is scheduled for approximately 30 minutes after Texas A&M-Alabama ends, meaning we won’t know Kentucky’s Saturday opponent until late in the night. Regardless, the game will be broadcast on the SEC Network with an approximate start time of 2:00 p.m. EST.

If Kentucky were to win against either LSU or Tennessee, they will advance to the SEC Tournament semifinals, also scheduled for Saturday. A loss would knock UK out of the event and prevent the ‘Cats from adding any more wins to their resume heading into the Selection Show.

Kentucky began the tournament with a clutch 3-1 win over 5-seed Auburn. This is the first time since 2014 that the ‘Cats have won multiple SEC Tournament games. UK has posted six wins against the RPI Top 6 over its last 13 outings.
