Kevin Knox has been accused of being soft this season, but he broke out in a big way tonight, scoring 34 points to lead Kentucky to a 83-76 upset over West Virginia.

Knox was 11-17 from the floor, 5-8 from three, and 7-8 from the line. He also had seven rebounds, showing unseen assertiveness and confidence in the face of a huge West Virginia lead. Afterwards, the freshman said he “lives” for hostile environments like the one the Cats faced in Morgantown tonight.

“I love atmospheres likes this,” Knox said. “I love playing away games. I love going against people on the road, that’s something I loved growing up. Other team yelling, the student section, it just gets me going. I was hitting some big shots today so I had to talk a little trash. They were talking trash to us, so I had to go back at them. This is what I love. I love road games. I love playing big crowds and all that. That’s just something I live for.”
