[caption id="attachment_299271" align="alignnone" width="1556"] Churchill Downs[/caption] The Kentucky Derby field just got a little bit smaller. Tampa Bay Derby winner and Arkansas Derby runner-up King Guillermo has been scratched from Kentucky Derby 146. Concerns arose Thursday morning when the three-year-old did not make it to the track for his regularly scheduled workout. Trainer Juan Carlos Avila revealed this afternoon that the cause of King Guillermo's absence is a fever. “To race in a race like the Derby we need him at 100 percent,” Avila said. “We aren’t going to be able to demonstrate how good he is like this. I think we are going to have plenty of time to show his quality. He’s going to be a great horse and everybody knows we have to take care of the horse first.” Like Art Collector, the next time you'll likely see King Guillermo is in the Preakness Stakes. The field for Kentucky Derby 146 is now just 17. King Guillermo was set to run from the sixth post position, moving every horse on its outside one spot closer to the rail. That means odds-on favorite Tiz the Law will not be running from the ill-fated 17-post. Now Bob Baffert's Authentic will attempt to be the first horse to ever win from the seventeenth stall.
