King Rex's Son Sits 1st Rd, Saturday?; Hill Tearing It Up; Findlay Streak Snapped

by:Dustin Rumbaugh12/18/09
*If you do get the chance to see Zeke this weekend, it's funny how much he looks exactly like his dad but with crazy hair. Disappointment was the vibe at the King of the Bluegrass tournament in Fairdale High School's gymnasium on Thursday night, at least for Kentucky fans. King Rex's son, Zeke Chapman, was unable to even dress for his Chaparral "Firebirds'" game against Josh Sewell and the Trinity "Fighting Wrinkle Free Khaki Dockers".  Zeke's team eventually fell 66-55 but if there is a King of the Bluegrass, he must have a Queen. That's the title the Chaparral team will be fighting for when they play their next game on Saturday at 7:30 in the East gym. Still no definite word on whether Zeke will be able to suit up for that contest. Another game that Kentucky fans should be interested in is Shelby County's 9:00pm Saturday showdown with a very talented Eastern HS team in the East Gym. Both teams won their opening round match ups and will be facing off in the winner's bracket. Darryl Hicks is a freshman at Shelby County and this kid is extremely talented. The few times I saw him on the AAU circuit this Summer, I always came away extremely impressed and I don't think I ever saw him leave a game without scoring in the teens or higher. He's been on a roll this high school season as well, which carried over into last night's 27 point performance. This kid is a major talent and is getting very deserved interest from UK's staff. I don't think anyone would be shocked to see him in UK blue or UL red one day. Here's your UK biased schedule (Both gyms are located at Fairdale High School): Saturday 7:30 Chaparral v Game 8 loser (East Gym) Saturday 9:00 Shelby County v Eastern (West Gym) ----------------------- Chris Hill continued his superb season with another of his usual Kobe-esque outings. Hill had 44 points, 13 rebounds, 4 blocks and 3 steals in a 78-64 win over Pamlico. This recent 44 point outing might seem huge but it's just another day at the office for Hill, who has put up 50, 45, 42 and 40 in previous games this season. He's currently averaging 30 points, 13 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 blocks per game. Next up for Hill and his Stevens Prep squad is the Miller School, home of former UK recruit and current Maryland commitment Mychal Parker. That game will take place tonight at 9pm. On top of being a star on the court, Hill has a great personality off the court. He's always ready to talk basketball or recruiting in his usual engaging and entertaining manner. I'll be surprised if there's ever a time when I talk or text with Hill and his doesn't humbly bring up the fact that "oh by the way..." he just had another 40 point game, scoring a double or even triple double. Great kid that's having a great season so far. ----------------------- Findlay Prep saw their 45 game winning streak snapped (for video highlights, click the link) on ESPN last night by Northland (OH). Northland features Jared Sullinger, the #1 center in the 2010 class and an Ohio State commitment. Sullinger racked up an absurd 32 points and 21 rebounds in the victory. Also absurd is that this is only Findlay Prep head coach Michael Peck's 2nd loss in three seasons, which puts him at 77-2 overall. Cory Joseph, a 2010 recruit that Kentucky scouted over the Summer, and current top UK targets Nick Johnson (2011) and Winston Shepard (2012) play for Findlay Prep. For the life of me I can't find a box score for this game online so I'm not sure of these three player's point totals. If anyone can find one, please link it in the comments section. (Update: thanks to Nybrasky for the box score. Nick Johnson had 14, Joseph had 8 and Shepard was held scoreless). Findlay Prep now moves on to the City of Palms classic (for my UK biased schedule click here) where they'll face Austin Rivers and Winter Park (FL) on Saturday. Notes:

- I'll be making the trip back to Fairdale on Saturday. Fairdale is my mammy's former stomping ground and only a couple exits from my parent's home in Louisville, which is a nice change from the usual hour or more trips that I have to make for some good basketball. Anyways, back to the stuff that matters, I'll be taking some video of Zeke Chapman (if he plays) and Darryl Hicks. If you haven't done so already, subscribe or RSS feed the KSR recruiting Youtube page so you can get the videos when they get posted. I should be able to get them up on the site Sunday but you can beat all your friends and get them Saturday night if you subscribe. I'm also trying to add all the videos of UK recruits that I can find on YouTube into the "favorites" section of the page so you can get an idea of what each prospect really looks like. I figured this might be a feature that a few of you would enjoy.

- Gotta say thanks for the 74% approval rating. How any of you passed up the chance to let the world know about me constantly chasing down high school boys is beyond me. All kidding aside, when this "job" gets stressful, which is does more so than you would think, that stuff helps. So thanks, I appreciate it.
