The opening weekend of playoff football rarely includes a rivalry game rematch from the regular season. This Friday features just that. Crosstown rivals Great Crossing and Scott County will face off with bragging rights for Georgetown on the line. The Cardinals defeated the Warhawks 14-6 in the regular season.

Jim McKee’s Cardinals enter the contest with a 5-5 record and ranked No. 15 in 5A per the KHSAA RPI. Scott County has played a difficult schedule and lost to Lexington Catholic 41-40 in its season finale. Quarterback Andrew Hickey has thrown for 735 yards and nine touchdowns. Scott County is a run-heavy offense that features six rushers with over 100 yards for the season. The Cardinals rank fourth in 5A with 2,063 yards on the ground.  Jeremy Hamilton paces the team with ten touchdowns. Elijah Adams leads the defense with 54 tackles. Isaac Krebs has added 50 stops including nine tackles for loss.

Great Crossing is 8-2 with its two losses coming to Scott County and Frederick Douglass. Ricky Bowling’s team features an explosive defense that ranks fourth in 5A in points allowed (13.4), quarterback sacks (35), and rushing (76 yards per game). Defensive end Oryend Fisher sports multiple Power 5 offers including Kentucky. The junior is third in 5A with 11.5 sacks. He’s joined by Will Frazier who has 11 quarterback sacks and ranks first in 5A with five forced fumbles. Tennessee commit Kalib Perry plays multiple roles and has registered 72 tackles and eight tackles for loss. The Warhawks are ranked No. 9 in 5A per the KHSAA RPI.

Should be a good one in Georgetown.
