The No. 7 Boyle County Rebels will host the No. 2 Frederick Douglass Broncos in the final Kroger KSR Game of the Week of the season. Kickoff is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 28 at 7:30 PM in Danville. Ahead of the matchup, KSR is previewing both teams separately. Below is everything you need to know about the Rebels.

Check out Daniel Hager’s preview of Frederick Douglass here.

Boyle County looks to continue domination of Commonwealth

The Rebels are coming off back-to-back 4A state championships. The state-wide domination continued through the start of the 2022 season as Boyle rattled off six straight wins. Two of those wins included handing Bowling Green and Henderson County their lone losses of the year. The Rebels and third-year head coach Justin Haddix rode high until a short trip to Lexington threw a wrench into the season.

The October 7th matchup with Lexington Catholic provided the fuel that Boyle needed for the rest of the year. The Rebels dominated the game through the first half, but a second-half collapse led to their first loss of the year. The game was an instant classic, as the matchup was decided by a singular point, 28-27. After the final whistle, the Lexington Catholic faithful stormed the field and celebrated like it was State Street. During the pandemonium, you could see the sorrow in the Rebel players’ eyes. But this is where a coach like Haddix thrives; he lives on motivating his squad.

Boyle County should have zero problems getting up for this game. Frederick Douglass has dominated every squad that they’ve played this year. The Broncos are undefeated and the consensus best team in 5A. Boyle County has a unique opportunity; it sets up perfectly for a “prove yourself” game for the Rebels. A message to the rest of the state that 4A still runs through Danville. Just ask Anderson and Bourbon County; the Rebels ran them out of town by a combined 79 points. Sleep on Haddix and company if you’d like, but I advise against it.

Kentucky commit Tommy Ziesmer X-factor in matchup

While Boyle County may not have the same level of D1 talent as Douglass, they do have a future Wildcat. Senior Tommy Ziesmer has enjoyed a great year on the defensive line. The edge rusher has registered 47 solo tackles, 14 for loss, and six sacks in nine games. This is a crazy season on its own, let alone when you realize that he gets double-teamed almost every snap. He’ll look to cause havoc on a Bronco offense that has run over every opponent.

The Rebel offense is a two-headed monster of quarterback Sage Dawson and wide receiver Montavin Quisenberry. Dawson, committed to EKU, has had a fantastic season of 1,400 passing yards with 20 touchdowns. He’s also enjoyed 400 yards rushing for an additional five touchdowns.

Quisenberry recently earned a scholarship offer from the University of Kentucky. This followed Louisville’s offer two weeks ago. The sophomore has had one of the best seasons in the entire state, rushing for 584 yards and six touchdowns. Quisenberry has also caught 473 yards receiving with nine touchdowns. He went viral with this incredible move against Anderson County.

Kroger is a staple in your hometown community just like high school football. There’s nothing quite like Friday nights in the Bluegrass. We are honored to share this journey with Kroger and you for the third consecutive season.
