After taking the last two weeks off due to paternity leave and SEC Media Days, KSR Golf is returning for the final tournament in July for the PGA Tour. There is a head-to-head battle with LIV Golf this weekend as Detroit hosts its yearly tournament.

From some betting action, the PGA Tour still runs the show. As the tour gets ready for a run at the Tour Championship in August, there is a surprisingly good field this week at the Rocket Mortgage Classic. Let’s find some winners.

Course layout

Detroit Golf Club is the golf home for this weekend, and this course is a par 72 layout that stretches out over 7,300 yards. This is your typical PGA Tour tournament course that includes tree-lined fairways and rewards players who can get off the tee.

With just one water hazard in the event and some manageable greens to deal with, you should expect a birdie party up in Detroit. This course is very easy for the pros to manage, but the second shots could have more value than the driver.

Advanced stat of the week

Everyone will be able to score on the Par 5s this week. The separator will be who can score on some of the long Par 4s. The driver is important here, but the approach shots should make the difference. Therefore, we’re looking for players who rank highly in both strokes gained off-the-tee and strokes gained approach.

Will Zalatoris ranks No. 1 on tour in approach and is No. 11 off-the-tee. The No. 13 ranked golfer in the OWGR has legitimate value to win at 12/1 over at Draft Kings.

Luckett’s Locks

Max Homa has a pair of wins this season and ranks inside the top 30 in both metrics this week. The 31-year-old is at No. 20 in the world and has contended at multiple events this year. We’re putting him on our win ticket this week at 14/1.

Tony Finau picked up a big win at the 3M Open and has four top-10 finishes in his last nine starts. Sitting at No. 16 in the world, the Utah native is closing the year on a heater. Ranking inside the top 20 in both metrics, we’re going with a top-10 play (+170) on Finau.

Luke List has missed three of his last four cuts after a hot start to the season. However, the big hitter ranks inside the top 20 of both metrics. A top-40 play (+130) feels like a very safe wager. Jhonattan Vegas is in the same mold ranking inside the top 40. Let’s get another top-40 play (+140) locked in.
