Jon Rahm picked up his first victory of the season last weekend with a one-stroke win over Tony Finau, Kurt Kitayama, and Brandon Wu at the Mexico Open. Now the tour will return to the states for a familiar stop at a different locale.

The Wells Fargo Championship takes place this weekend two weeks before the PGA Championship takes place. KSR Golf is back to find some winners.

Course layout

Due to the Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte set to host the Presidents Cup later this year, the stop for the Wells Fargo Championship is going to a different location this year. TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm located just outside of Washington D.C. will host the event, and the players better bring the power.

The Par 70 layout checks in at 7,160 yards highlighted by the Par 5 at No. 2 which checks in at 641 yards. However, it’s not just the distance that makes this a challenging 18-hole layout.

The fairways are small and tree-lined as driving accuracy is put to the test. There are over 70 bunkers on the course to challenge golfers who are planning to land on small greens. TPC Potomac is one of the tougher courses on the calendar.

Expect some high scores for the 156 players at the event with the top-65 plus ties making the cut.

Advanced stat of the week

Due to the sheer size of the course, KSR Golf is focusing on driving accuracy this week. Strokes gained tee-to-green should get the most attention as the winner this weekend must be hitting the ball well with the big stick.

Corey Conners currently ranks No. 6 in strokes gained off the tee and combines that with a No. 3 ranking in greens in regulation. That combination is going to make the 30-year-old a very popular player this week. At Draft Kings, Conners has the second-best odds to win (16/1) and is worth heavy consideration.

Luckett’s Locks

Keith Mitchell is currently No. 2 on tour trailing only Jon Rahm in strokes gained off-the-tee. The Georgia product has made 11 of 15 cuts and has four top-10 finishes this season. The 30-year-old fits this course and will have a great chance to contend at TPC Potomac. Lock Mitchell in to win at +4000.

Sergio Garcia is also hitting the ball well with the driver, and the 42-year-old veteran had a respectable cut streak building before the team event at the Zurich Classic Of New Orleans. Garcia has the ingredients to contend and is a solid top-10 play at +330.

Abraham Ancer ranks outside of the top-50 in strokes gained off-the-tee and is slowly seeing his World Golf Ranking drop. The 31-year-old has missed two cuts in his last three stroke-play events and was never a contender last week at the Mexico Open. We’re thinking those struggles could continue and are locking in a missed cut play at +150.

Might as well double down on Corey Conners. The Canadian is +150 in three-ball against Ancer and Marc Leishman. Lock it in.
