CAL has beaten DeSales 5 straight times in the regular season but the Colts have avenged the past four losses in the third round of the playoffs. Home field advantage is up for grabs this year as DeSales finally has an on-campus stadium. The Centurions lost their opener to Simon Kenton 41-14, but have responded nicely by winning their last 5 games. CAL has an array of play makers on the offensive side of the ball as they have scored more than 30 points in each of their last five games. Seniors Tanner Palin and Anteneh Thomposon lead the rushing attack for CAL as they have combined for 578 yards and 11 touchdowns. Sophomore receiver Milton Wright has been all over the field this season for CAL catching 21 passes for 258 yards along with time spent at quarterback, running back, and safety Wright has scored 9 touchdowns. Turnovers have been the difference in this rivalry the past few years and I expect it to be no different this year. Both teams are going to be excited to play this week as home field advantage is up for grabs. DeSales will continue using two quarterbacks as they have done all season, both senior Brayden Recktenwald and sophomore Aaron Pfaadt will take snaps for the Colts. Austin Tharp leads the Colts with 320 yards and 7 touchdowns on 49 carries as well as seven catches for 95 yards and a touchdown. After losing to Ballard 25-10 on Sept. 3rd Coach Harold Davis has his boys playing well going into the heart of their district schedule. CAL has to be chomping at the bit to face the team that ended their season in a devastating 37-18 loss while DeSales is trying to win the district for the first time in 7 years. Eli's Pick- These teams know each other well so this game will come down to who protects the football better and who can score points off turnovers. I'll take DeSales in a close one 28-21. Morgan has thrown for 1,271 yards and 8 touchdowns as Ryle has blown out their last 4 opponents. Jarod Lonaker leads class 6A in passing this season with 2,013 yards and 20 touchdowns on 205 attempts. Dante Hendrix torched the Raiders in last year's match up catching 8 balls for 153 yards and a touchdown. Manual (6-0) vs. St. Xavier (4-2) St.X looks to rebound after losing to Trinity 35-13 in Papa John's stadium last week. The Tigers were shut down offensively last week with star running back Sam Taylor only rushing for 37 yards on just eight carries. Taylor will look to bounce back against a Manual team that is 6-0 for the sixth straight season. Lexington Catholic (1-5) vs. Western Hills (5-1) This is a make or break game for Lex Cath as they have dropped 5 straight games against bigger schools. Western Hills is off to a good start this season as Wandale Robinson leads class 3A in rushing with 1,065 yards and 16 touchdowns in just 6 games. The Knights hope to get things rolling as they host rival Boyle County next friday.
