Under second year Head Coach Eddie Eviston the Colonels have won 3 straight close games against quality opponents. Cov Cath won a nail bitter last week against Lexington Catholic in a game that came down to a missed extra point by Lex Cath with 13 seconds remaining. 6'3 200 pound Aj Mayer leads the Colonels from under center, he has thrown for 926 yards and 7 touchdowns in 4 games this year. Cov Cath has relied mostly on throwing the ball but sophomore running back Casey Mcginness has shown promise this season rushing for 329 yards on 60 carries. The Colonels will try to use their size advantage on the line to stop Beechwood's running game and force the Tigers to throw the ball. The Cov Cath defense has given up a lot of points early in the season but have shown they can make a stop in big situations. Beechwood has played well in this young season, outscoring their opponents 98-28 in 3 games. Senior quarterback Brayden Burch is athletic and can put the ball into tight windows. Beechwood has 6-7 speedy receivers that can create separation and make the catch. The challenge for Beechwood in this game is their lack of size on the offensive line, Cov Cath will make it a priority to create pressure on Burch and force him out of the pocket. Beechwood can make up for their size disadvantage with creative plays that puts Cov Cath defenders in one on one situations. Eli's Pick - Cov Cath has to show up ready to play against a Beechwood team that is hyped up to play this game. If Cov Cath plays like they have in the past 3 weeks this game could be a blowout. I'll take Cov Cath in this one 31-14. Other Notable Games  Lafayette (3-1) vs. Scott County (3-1) - The past two times these teams have met they combined for 177 total points. Lafayette outlasted Scott County in last years playoffs to advance to the semifinals, the Cardinals will remember on Friday night how it felt to have their season ended. I expect Coach Jim Mckee to have his boys ready for a battle against UK Commit Walker Wood and the Generals. Owensboro Catholic (3-1) vs. Apollo (2-2) - Owensboro Catholic's Vonn Williams began his sophomore season on a roll rushing for 682 yards and 4 touchdowns. Apollo is on a hot streak winning their last two games against Butler County and Logan County. Apollo faces a tall task this week against a Owensboro Catholic that beat them in a 47-14 blowout last season. Daviess County (3-1) vs. Owensboro (2-2) - Owensboro is coming off a tough stretch of losses against 5A powerhouse Bowling Green and rival Owensboro Catholic. The Red Devils will look to use their running game against a Daviess County defense that gave up 268 rushing yards against Owensboro Catholic earlier this season. Manual (3-0) vs. Ballard (3-1) - An inner city match up that never dissapoints in terms of entertainment. Both teams have started their seasons playing well. Ballard lost a tough game against Male in week two but have rebounded in recent weeks against Desales and Western. Manual has depended on their running game early in the season rushing for over 200 yards in their last two games.
