The stadium was packed with students and many alumni as the 2006 state championship team was honored at halftime. Beechwood converted a 41 yard field goal by Daniel Mescher after an interception thrown by Cov Cath's AJ Mayer. The Tigers struggled offensively in the first quarter having minus 15 yards of total offense compared to Cov Cath's 74 yards. Cov Cath put together some good drives but couldn't get into the end zone until Anthony Best ran 4 yards for a touchdown with 52 seconds remaining in the half to give Cov Cath a 10-3 lead. The Cov Cath defense swallowed up the Tigers rushing attack allowing 0 yards in the first half. The Colonels came out of the locker room on fire sacking the Beechwood punter on 4th&17 then scoring the next play on a 25 yard touchdown pass from AJ Mayer to Josh Newman. Mayer bounced back from an early interception to throw for 302 yards and 2 touchdowns. After a 34 yard interception returned for a touchdown by Anthony Best, Beechwood's James Davis returned the ensuing kickoff 96 yards for a touchdown. Cov Cath responded with 3 more touchdowns to conclude a 3rd quarter that included 34 points for the Colonels. Beechwood never found a way to overcome the size adavantage that Cov Cath had, only gaining 58 yards of total offense compared to 462 for Cov Cath. Both teams are on the road next week as Cov Cath travels north to play St. Francis De Sales and Beechwood plays Holy Cross on the road. Other Notable Scores Scott County 25 Lafayette 20 Scott County lead 25-20 with 11:04 remaining in the 3rd quarter when the game was called due to lightning in the area. The game was not rescheduled because Toyota Stadium is not available today and Scott County sent their JV and freshman teams to Ohio. Lafayette was rewarded a 2-0 victory late last night due to KHSAA rules that state if a team can’t play the following day and is unable to agree on the resumption date, that team must forfeit the game. St.X 45 Highlands 18  Desmond Ridder led the Tigers going 10 of 13 for 108 yards and two touchdowns in just the first half. The second half consisted of mostly backups for St.X in a game that wasn't close throughout. It doesn't any easier for the Bluebirds next week against Simon Kenton. Belfry 55 Pikeville 13 The Belfry train stayed on track against defending 1A state champs Pikeville, Noah Corbett threw 1 pass for 52 yards and a touchdown to go along with 50 yards on the ground. Belfry had 550 total yards of offense on just 23 plays. Manual 13 Ballard 0  The Crimson held Ballard to minus 36 yards to post its second shut out of the season. Manual rushed for 189 yards on 51 carries to continue their undefeated season. Ballard QB Terrance May completed 17 of 35 passes for 173 yards but the Bruins offense was virtually shut down due to Manual's run defense. Everyone come out to Commonwealth Stadium for Heroes day!
