KSR Preps Recap : Defense Powers Lex Cath to 38-7 win against rival Boyle County

KSR Preps Game of the Week

Lexington Catholic 38 Boyle County 7 

After a half of play this game looked to be competitive with Lex Cath leading 13-7 until Boyle County turned the ball over four times in the second half.

Dameon Jones controlled this game breaking a 68 yard touchdown run in the second quarter to give Lex Cath a lead that wouldn’t be surrendered. Jones finished the night with 32 carries for 198 yards.

A 27 yard touchdown pass from Beau Allen to Gavin Cameron extended Lex Cath’s lead heading into halftime but Boyle County drove the length of the field with 35 seconds left and scored on a 22 yard pass from Sam Tiller to Reese Smith.

Following halftime the Knights scored 10 unanswered points including a 36 yard field goal by Connor Fry and a 3 yard touchdown run by Kirk Fagot. Lex Cath capitalized on Boyle County’s four interceptions and turned them into points, Eric Sotille returned an interception 25 yards for a touchdown along with a 95 yard interception return for a touchdown by Sid Sharp to seal the game.

Head Coach Mark Perry has to be impressed with his team for putting together a complete game for the first time this season in a must win district game.

Following a rough start to the season Lex Cath has put together two blowout wins against two district foes to ensure home field throughout the playoffs. Boyle County will now have to travel in the second round.

Covington Catholic 63 Highlands 26

The Colonels dominated the line of scrimmage all night rushing for 502 yards, with Casey McGinness leading the way rushing for 225 yards on 17 carries. AJ Mayer scored 3 first quarter touchdowns along with 168 yards rushing on the way to victory.

St.Xavier 31 Male 21

A 39 yard Hail Mary touchdown pass from Desmond Ridder to Michael Meredith with 3.4 seconds left in the first half pulled St.X within one touchdown. Sam Taylor scored on a 5 yard run to put the Tigers ahead 24-21 with just 3 minutes remaining. Male was forced to punt and two plays later Ridder ran 15 yards for a touchdown to seal the victory for St.X.

Lexington Christian 41 Somerset 28 

The Briar Jumpers held 21-19 lead heading into the fourth quarter but LCA scored 22 points in the final quarter to stay undefeated. Logan Nieves ran 2 yards for a touchdown to give the Eagles the lead early in the fourth quarter, Nieves finished the night with 157 yards on 18 carries. Dillion Wheatley added 143 yards and 3 touchdowns.
