KSR Preps Recap : Lonaker, Hendrix lead Cooper over Lex Cath 38-20

[caption id="attachment_207745" align="aligncenter" width="600"](@J_Lonaker19) (@J_Lonaker19)[/caption] KSR Preps Game of the Week Cooper 38 Lexington Catholic 20  Jerod Lonaker lead Cooper on an 8 play 75 yard touchdown drive to open Friday nights game against Lexington Catholic. Lonaker was successful in the short passing game all night as the Jaguars did not rely on big plays instead they methodically drove the ball down the field. Lex Cath responded when Kirk Fagot threw a 70 yard strike to senior receiver Bo Bennington but that would be the Knights only touchdown until late in the 4th quarter. Cooper went into half leading 17-7 then stormed out of the locker room to score four unanswered touchdowns against a Knights defense that couldn't contain Cooper's passing attack. Jacob Moore returned an interception 38 yards into the end zone to put the game out of reach. Cooper's Dante Hendrix played a huge role in this game for the Jaguars catching 8 balls for 140 yards and 2 touchdowns. Lonaker had a big night of his own throwing for 343 yards and 3 touchdowns to add to an impressive senior season. This was Lex Cath's fifth straight loss in a season that has been filled with injuries, one bright spot was junior running back Dameon Jones who rushed for 197 yards and 2 touchdowns against a good Cooper defense. The Knights open district play on the road next week against (5-1) Western Hills. Other Notable Scores  Mayfield 35 Corbin 34 This match up lived up to the billing putting on a show at Lindsey Wilson College. Mayfield lead the whole way until Corbin blocked a punt and intercepted a pass to cut into Mayfield's lead. Corbin executed a great comeback in the 2nd half with a chance to tie the game but the Redhounds decided to go for 2 and failed to convert. Landon Arnett completed 17 of 23 passes for 238 yards to help Mayfield close out the win. Simon Kenton 77 Highlands 53  Cameron Racke of Simon Kenton had a stellar performance completing 20 of 24 passes for 336 yards and 6 touchdowns to go along with 134 yards of rushing a 3 more touchdowns. The two teams combined for 1,383 yards of total offense on Friday night. Highlands lead by 16 at one point but the Bluebirds defense has been vulnerable all season and continued to be against Simon Kenton. Tates Creek 48 Bryan Station 27 The Commodores held off a late rally by Bryan Station to stay undefeated in the city this season, Cameron Workman lead Tates Creek by throwing for 290 yards and 3 touchdowns. Station's Romel Croley returned an interception 28 yards for a touchdown to cut into Tates Creek's 35-27 lead. Laron Warner sealed the game for the Commodores with his 2nd touchdown. Central 41 Waggener 21 The Yellow Jackets defense dominated in Central's first district game of the season only allowing two first downs and minus 19 yards in the first half. Corey Johnson rushed for 77 yards and 2 touchdowns for the Yellow Jackets. Central picked up its 35th straight victory over a district opponent since 2007.
