Quarterback Spencer Blackburn lead the Trinity offense to 17 first downs and 368 yards of total offense. Blackburn finished the night going 11 of 18 for 196 yards and 3 touchdowns. Jovel Smith of Trinity caught all 3 touchdowns from Blackburn along with 3 other receptions for 122 yards. Trinity controlled this game at the line of scrimmage, running backs Roderick Thomas and Jovan Smith each gained big chucks of yardage with every attempt. UK Commit Walker Wood could not get the Lafayette offense going in this game, the Generals only gained 4 first downs on Friday night. The Trinity defense forced Wood out of the pocket often, giving him little time to get the ball downfield. Trinity's run defense was impressive, giving no running lanes to the elusive Wood. One match up that lived up to the hype in this game was between Lafayette offensive tackle and UK target Jedrick Wills and Trinity's star sophomore Stephon Herron Jr. The two battled throughout the night, Wills showed off his footwork in pass protection but Herron Jr. got the best of him on occasion. Trinity looks to continue their hot start against cross town rival Male. Lafayette goes on the road this week against 6A Boone County. Other scores around the State Bowling Green 31 St.Xavier 10 - Bowling Green handed the St.X Tigers their first loss of the season in a complete game by the Purples. The Tiger's offense is too vanilla at this point in the season to beat a team like Bowling Green. Suspended QB Desmond Ridder will make his season debut next week against Louisville Central next week. Scott County 42 Highlands 33 - Highlands kept this game a lot closer than most were predicting but Scott County was too much on the ground for the Bluebirds. Scott. Co may be the team flying under the radar in 6A, the Cardinals are 3-0. Danville 43 Boyle County 15 - Danville dominated their rival from start to finish. A young Boyle County had no answer for the ads in this one. Painstville 40 Pikeville 28 - Kent Phelps had over 200 rushing yards for the Tigers in a game that was not as close as the score indicates. Painstville was in full control all game leading 40-14 going into the 4th. Everyone enjoy the first weekend of college football and go cats!
