KSR Sources: Jaland Lowe's injury may require surgery, but not only option
Kentucky may be without its starting point guard for the long haul — but it’s not a guarantee, sources tell KSR.
Jaland Lowe reinjured his shoulder in practice on Thursday and all parties involved are now weighing options regarding the next steps, one being surgery that could end his season after just two games. It’s not the only path forward, though, and those close to the junior guard are hopeful he can find a way to play again in 2025-26.
KSR+ first broke the news of Lowe’s injury Thursday afternoon, then again regarding the severity on Friday morning.
Matt Jones had a similar update on Friday, saying the injury “could lead to surgery but also has other options that would potentially allow him to play,” adding that the two sides “will be working through which decision is the best path throughout the day.”
Jeff Goodman and Rob Dauster of The Field of 68 have a premium update on Lowe’s status, too, confirming talk of surgery while also adding new intel on early test results for the Pittsburgh transfer. You can find that info here.

What should you expect in the short term? Well, it’s obvious we won’t see Lowe in action when the Wildcats take on Eastern Illinois at Rupp Arena on Friday, but we should receive clarity ahead of tip-off before getting an official update from Mark Pope after the game.
Sources tell KSR it was the same shoulder he hurt during the Blue-White Game several weeks back, going down at the end of practice while boxing out for a rebound. It came just hours after Pope talked about the Pittsburgh transfer’s recovery returning from the last one, suiting up in two games after missing both exhibitions and the season opener vs. Nicholls.
“He’s got a lot of soreness I think in his whole body, but I think he’s fine,” he said early Thursday afternoon. “I think he’s in good shape.”
That progress would lead to an immediate setback. Now, we wait.
