It’s a bad March to be a No. 1 seed. A No. 1 seed will not win the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2016. That’s because for the first time since the NCAA Tournament began seeding teams in 1979, there will not be a No. 1 seed in the Elite Eight.

Miami overwhelmed Houston. The Canes punched their ticket to a second straight Elite Eight by controlling the game from start to finish in a 89-75 victory. In Louisville, the No. 1 overall seed Alabama couldn’t withstand a 23-5 second half surge from San Diego State, falling 71-64. It’s the first time in the 24-year history of the Mountain West Conference that a member school has reached an Elite Eight.

The nightcaps featured less theatrics. Princeton led at various points throughout the first half and only trailed by four at intermission, before Creighton pulled ahead of the No. 15 seed for an 86-75 victory, earning its first Elite Eight berth in school history. Texas dominated from start to finish, defeating Xavier 83-71 to get back to the Elite Eight for the first time since 2008.

In a year without the Kentucky Wildcats in the second weekend of the NCAA Tournament, the chaos is refreshing. Will it lead to lackluster Elite Eight games? We’ll find out tonight.

It Doesn’t Mean More

Saturday’s NCAA Tournament Schedule

Thursday night’s chaos could produce a pair of tightly contested Saturday night showdowns. Despite some big numbers next to their name on the bracket, Vegas only has two-point spreads for each NCAA Tournament game. You can catch each Elite Eight game on TBS.

  • 6:09: No. 3 Kansas State (-2) vs. No. 9 Florida Atlantic
  • 8:49: No. 4 UConn (-2) vs. No. 3 Gonzaga

Picking up the Pieces after Kentucky Pro Day

Wow. What a whirlwind. Once a gathering of a few dozen media members and NFL scouts turned into a Kentucky football showcase with live hits on SportsCenter, the SEC Network and NFL Network. Officials from all 32 NFL teams, and some of the biggest names in the sport, were on hand to watch Will Levis perform one final time before the NFL Draft. The Kentucky quarterback let it rip, while his teammates made their move up draft boards. Chris Rodriguez was explosive, while Carrington Valentine and Keidron Smith made a solid case to the NFL teams in attendance.

Kentucky Football Spring Practice No. 6

If you didn’t hear from Mark Stoops enough on Friday, don’t you worry. You’ll get to spend some more time hearing from the Kentucky head football coach this afternoon following spring practice No. 6 for the Wildcats. More than a third of the way through the spring season, today feels like the right time for the first scrimmage of the season. If so, we should hear some intriguing notes about the team’s development. Stay tuned.

Bat Cats in Action in Alabama

The Kentucky baseball team nearly let one slip away. The Bat Cats allowed two runs in the bottom of the ninth to take the game to extra innings. After a pair of scoreless innings, Jackson Gray’s single moved Grant Smith into scoring position before a wild pitch sent home the game-winning run in the top of the 12th. Kentucky won 4-3, extending its nation-leading win streak to 16 games.

Kentucky can win its second straight series of the SEC season tomorrow. The first pitch of Game 2 in Tuscaloosa is set for 3 pm EST and can be streamed on the SEC Network.

Kentucky Softball Double-Header at Home

Rain delayed Kentucky’s matchup with Texas A&M. The Kentucky softball team (19-5-1) will play two games this afternoon against Texas A&M. The action at John Cropp Stadium begins at 2 pm EST and can be streamed on SECN+.

At Turfway Park Todd Pletcher’s Major Dude is the first choice in the Jeff Ruby Steaks (excellent name, post time 6:25).
