Kentucky baseball upsets No. 1 Tennessee in 13 innings

Speaking of photo finishes, Kentucky baseball found itself in a classic late Thursday evening, one that saw the Wildcats pull off a walk-off upset over No. 1 Tennessee at Kentucky Proud Park.

Tied 2-2 in the 13th inning, Alonzo Rubalcaba hit a walk-off single in left field to defeat the top-ranked Volunteers by a score of 3-2.

It was a night in which the Wildcats allowed just five combined hits to the hottest team in college baseball, one that came in with an absurd 41-4 overall record, including 19-2 in the SEC.

“Obviously when you’re in a game like that and it’s tied, you’re hanging on to every pitch,” head coach Nick Mingione said after the win. “I was just so proud of our team and the way they kept fighting.”

Kentucky racked up 12 hits and two home runs in the win, a victory that brings the team’s record to 25-20 on the year and 8-14 in conference play.

Game two of the weekend set is slated for Friday night at 6:30 p.m. EST. It will be shown on the SEC Network+.

Mark Stoops joins KSR, followed by Vince Marrow on Friday

The two most popular voices in Kentucky football are closing out the week on KSR. First, it was head coach Mark Stoops on Thursday, who discussed how NIL has “totally changed” recruiting in college sports, Will Levis being a potential No. 1 draft pick, Dane Key being an early standout among wide receivers, excitement for the fall and much more.

You can listen to the complete 20-minute conversation below:

As for today, Vince Marrow is set to join the show right at 10 a.m. ET, discussing all of your favorite football topics to open the morning.

Marrow has already said Levis has the potential to be the No. 1 pick in 2023. What else will the Big Dawg say on the KSR airwaves Friday morning?

BBNBA playoff double-header

Looking for something to do after the Oaks this evening? You’ve got two NBA playoff games to look forward to, both featuring former Kentucky basketball stars.

The Miami Heat will take on the Philadephia 76ers starting at 7 p.m. ET, with the Heat holding a 2-0 lead in the series. That game will feature Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro for Miami, along with Tyrese Maxey for Philadelphia.

From there, the Phoenix Suns will take on the Dallas Mavericks at 9:30 p.m. ET, with Devin Booker and the Suns leading the series 2-0.

Both games will be broadcast live on ESPN.

Happy Derby weekend, BBN.
