Good morning, folks! How are we enjoying the new site so far? Hopefully a Yahtzee pops up at some point this afternoon. Let’s get right into the news and notes you need to know ahead of your Thursday.

Ty Bryant decides at 4 pm

Kentucky Football could very well receive its first commit from the class of 2023 later today.

Ty Bryant, a three-star athlete from Frederick Douglass High School here in Lexington, KY, will make his college decision today at 4 p.m. EST. A 6-foot, 175-pound multi-positional talent mainly used as a defensive back, Bryant recently reclassified from 2022 to 2023 not long ago, as he did not turn 17 until Wednesday.

Kentucky and associate head coach Vince Marrow have been recruiting Bryant since before offering him a scholarship in Jan. 2020.

Heading into the decision, all signs are pointing toward Bryant picking the Wildcats. His father, Cisco Bryant, played at Kentucky under former head coach Jerry Claiborne from 1983-85. Additionally, the younger Bryant attends Frederick Douglass HS, which has churned out two current Kentucky freshmen in Dekel Crowdus and Jager Burton, the former being a good friend of his. Bryant is also close friends with another premier Kentucky recruit who attends Frederick Douglass, four-star class of 2022 wide receiver Dane Key.

The decision will take place at Frederick Douglass HS and I’ll be there (along with Drew Franklin) to bring you all the big news the moment it happens.

Joey Gatewood to UCF?

Joey Gatewood is expected to transfer back home for the remainder of his college football career.

Central Florida has emerged as the likely landing spot for the native of Jacksonville, On3’s Matt Zenitz reported Wednesday.

“Sources tell On3 that UCF has emerged as the likely landing spot for Joey Gatewood, the ex-Auburn and Kentucky quarterback who entered the NCAA transfer portal on Monday,” Zenitz wrote. “In addition to the connection with Malzahn and others on the UCF staff, it would also represent a return for Gatewood to his home state of Florida. He grew up about two hours away in Jacksonville.”

Gatewood’s decision to transfer was quite the shock at the time, but if any of us have been following Chase McGehee on Twitter, you’d know that he had the inside scoop for months.

Important recruiting stretch for Kentucky MBB

Kentucky Men’s Basketball is about to enter an important stage of the recruiting cycle for the class of 2022.

Wildcats head coach John Calipari has just one commitment in the fold for his next batch of recruits, highly-rated point guard Skyy Clark, but he could be on the cusp of bringing in an entire starting five over the course of the next several months. There are multiple five-star prospects who will be taking official visits to check out the Kentucky campus in the coming weeks with decision dates from other premier talents expected shortly after. It’s going to be an important stretch for the coaching staff and one that could define the 2022-23 roster.

Here’s a quick rundown of what you need to know:

More football notes

Will Levis won the starting quarterback job, but now he has to back up that decision on the field with the season-opener quickly approaching. He has the stamp of approval from his head coach, though, and that should be enough for Levis to get comfortable and settle in as QB1.

Jack Pilgrim has more on Levis.

On the defensive side of the ball, freshman linebacker Trevin Wallace has quickly made a name for himself in place of the banged-up Jacquez Jones. Not only has Wallace been running with the starters in practice, but he’s also been impressing everyone around him.

On3’s Matt Zenitz reported on Wednesday that Wallace has been one of the major standout players through the early stages of practice.

That’s all I’ve got for right now. We’ve got Matt Jones and the crew on the radio in an hour. See you then!
