KSR Today: Your Final Day for Fantasy Football Drafts
No, we don’t talk about our Fantasy Football teams on here. That’s because no one cares about your Fantasy Football team or my Fantasy Football team. That doesn’t mean it’s not fun to play. You don’t have to know anything and you can still roll the dice and win.
Over the last few weeks, I’ve spent quite a bit of time working at KSBar and KSOffice. Last night was one of the many times I overheard a group of friends picking players for their Fantasy Football leagues and I loved it. The camaraderie between a bunch of people sitting around busting chops and talking football, there’s nothing quite like it.
I’m here today to share the bittersweet news that the time for that specific version of camaraderie is over. Instead of projecting what those players look like, you get to actually watch them play. Today is the final day without NFL football. The two-time defending Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs open the season Thursday night against the Baltimore Ravens. We also get a Friday international night date in Sao Paolo on Peacock between the Eagles and the Packers before diving right back into college football.
Football will be back in full force soon enough. Make sure all of your Ts are crossed and Is are dotted before the madness begins tomorrow. That includes picking the right players for your Fantasy Football league.
Kentucky Football Continues to Thank Big Blue Nation
The further we get away from Saturday night, the more surreal it seems. Even though the Kentucky Wildcats have turned their attention to South Carolina, they can’t completely move on without thanking Big Blue Nation for Saturday night’s rain-delayed masterclass.
“That opened up a whole new appreciation that I have for this fanbase because honestly, it was a two-hour delay and I was so shocked that the crowd was still out there,” Maxwell Hairston said on SiriusXM. “Our families were out there and everybody was just as hyped as us once they let us out. That was just amazing. It was all worth (the wait) in the end after seeing that.”
Bush Hamdan is typically pretty buttoned-up in his comments. Not last night. His first game at Kentucky created a memory he will never forget. Well done, Big Blue Nation. Well done.
Wildcats Still Outside of Top 25
Playing only 2.5 quarters of shut-out football against one of the worst teams in the Sun Belt did not do enough to persuade pollsters to select Kentucky following the first weekend of college football. Kentucky falls in the “still receiving votes” category in both the AP and Coaches’ Poll. One national football beat writer took the Cats out of his poll, giving the Cats only two votes in the AP Poll this week, six fewer than Vanderbilt. The Coaches were much more kind. Kentucky was only a few spots away from making the cut at No. 29 overall.
If you prefer power rankings over pollsters, then I got some good news for you. The Cats are ranked No. 22 in the JP Poll and No. 22 in ESPN’s SP+ Rankings.

Kentucky Defense Talks Shop
Wednesday night is Brad White’s turn at the podium to speak with the media. Before we hear from the Kentucky defensive coordinator, you can hear how Bush Hamdan is preparing the offense for a disruptive South Carolina defense. KSR also spent quite a bit of time discussing the Kentucky run game with the offense. Typically, true freshmen don’t get to speak with the media, but the embargo was lifted on Jason Patterson after an impressive debut. Even though he’s young, you can tell he’s got a good head on his shoulders.
Kentucky Should Beat South Carolina
It’s not just because the South Carolina offense stinks. It’s because they match up so horribly with the Kentucky defense. If the Cats can take care of the ball, this should be a fun Saturday at Kroger Field. Allow the KSR Football Podcast to elaborate.

Kentucky Basketball Recruiting Update
We’re one day away from Jasper Johnson‘s highly-anticipated announcement, but that’s not all that’s happening on the Kentucky basketball recruiting front. Visits are being canceled and scheduled left and right. Eric Reibe made a decision we all anticipated and canceled his OV following Malachi Moreno‘s commitment to Kentucky. In more not-so-great news, Darryn Peterson officially cut Kentucky from his list of contenders. In better news, Tounde Yessoufou canceled his visit to Tennessee. Take that Vols!
Southern Miss Should’ve Tried This Trick Play
The Golden Eagles’ fake punt never stood a chance, thanks to Cam Dooley‘s disciplined play. I don’t know if the Cats would have been ready for this one. A high school faked a punt by throwing a pass that looked like a punt. They essentially acted as if everything was a normal punt. Instead of kicking it, they launched the ball under-handed down the field. While the defense seemingly backed away from the ball, a gunner reeled in the big reception. It’s so crazy it just might work, and it did!
