For the second time in three games, the Cincinnati Reds defeated a team from Chicago in walk-off fashion. On Wednesday afternoon the Reds and White Sox entered extra innings scoreless with just five combined hits. Luckily, the home team got two base knocks in the bottom of the 10th inning to secure the win and split the series against one of the best teams in baseball. Jesse Winker came through with runners on first and third with a single up the middle that scored Tucker Barnhart and gave the Reds a 1-0 victory. Winker, one of the best hitters in baseball this season, finished the day 2-4 at the plate to raise his batting average to .359 which is fourth best in Major League Baseball. https://twitter.com/Reds/status/1390032984888197123 The story of Wednesday's game up until the walk-off single was the pitching duel that began with Sonny Gray and Dallas Keuchel and then continued as the club's best relievers battled the rest of the way. For the Reds, Sonny Gray put together by far his best start of the season since returning from the injured list turning in seven innings of shutout baseball while allowing just two hits and striking out eight. The offense was completely dormant though which kept Gray from earning the win. On the other side for the South Siders, veteran left-hander Dallas Keuchel matched Gray pitch-for-pitch turning in his own seven innings of shoutout, two hit work. Keuchel only recorded one strikeout, but kept the Reds off balance all game long extending their scoreless inning streak to 18 before the extra inning walk-off. Out of the bullpen, Tejay Antone turned in two innings of shutout baseball to bounce back from his rough outing on Sunday. Lucas Sims then stepped up in a big way to cleanly maneuver his way out of the 10th inning. After walking the leadoff batter, Sims induced a ground ball that got an out at second base and placed runners at the corners with one away. White Sox Manager Tony La Russa called for a steal but Tucker Barnhart gunned the runner down for the second out of the inning. Sims then struck out former Red Billy Hamilton to end the top of 10th inning. Jesse Winker's walk-off single in the bottom of the 10th, which came after a Nick Senzel single advanced Tucker Barnhart to third base, improved the Reds 14-15 on the season. Cincinnati has now won five of their last eight heading into a three-game weekend series in Cleveland.
