KSR's own Ty Schadt takes home Sports Emmy for "The Lumberman Quarterback"

For those of you that haven't followed the site for all that long, allow me to introduce Ty Schadt. You might have seen his name around before, as he's been an intern here at Kentucky Sports Radio for over two years now, writing mainly on Sundays with the rest of our fellow interns. While doing that, Ty was also interning at NFL Films up in New Jersey during the 2019 NFL Football season when he was a senior in college at Asbury University. It was shortly after his internship with NFL Films ended that he wrote the piece that would later win him a Sports Emmy. On Tuesday, Ty was honored as the Sports Emmy winner for Outstanding Writing - Long Form thanks to his work on "The Lumberman Quarterback", a massive recognition for the rising up-and-comer in the world of sports. Ty wrote the entire feature, which was then produced by NFL Films. The piece focuses on former NFL quarterback Josh McCown and his unusual first-ever postseason outing with the Philadelphia Eagles at 40 years old. His piece beat out some serious competition, too, such as HBO's Hard Knocks and Kareem Abdul-Jabaar. "I’m always mindful of Henry David Thoreau’s mantra 'It’s not what you look at, it’s what you see.' I don’t think there’s an NFL player whose career better exemplifies that mentality than Josh McCown’s, and it was an honor to shine some light on him through this story. "This has been an unforgettable experience and none of it would be remotely possible without the help of many talented people at NFL Films. "Thank you to all my mentors and teachers who have been so willing to invest in my dreams and help me achieve them."

As someone who has worked with Ty regularly since he started with KSR, I know this was a much-deserved honor for him. The NFL sure does think so too. Ty was hired as a production assistant with NFL Films back in April and he is now vying for a full-time gig, which we don't think should take much longer after taking home a Sports Emmy...
