Lamb sets record, slaughters Winthrop

lamb-winthrop In a Wednesday matinee, Coach Cal's fears of flat performance by a team looking ahead to their Christmas break proved to be false as Kentucky destroyed the Winthrop Eagles, 89-52, thanks to a record-setting day from freshman shooting guard Doron Lamb.  Lamb, who again came off of the bench against the Eagles, exploded for a Kentucky freshman record 32 points, thanks to an 11-12 day from the field (7-8 from three).  Lamb, who was pulled with over five minutes still remaining in the game, eclipsed Jamal Mashburn's previous record of 31 and joined with Brandon Knight (21 points) to outscore the Eagles on their own.  Despite an off-afternoon from Terrence Jones, the Cats got contributions from Darius Miller (9 rebounds), DeAndre Liggins (9 points and 9 assists) and Josh Harrellson (10 rebounds).  They now break away for a couple days of holiday celebration with their families before returning for a game with Coppin State next week. We'll have a more detailed report shortly.
