A gridiron star is blooming in the Bluegrass State — and he’s right in Mark Stoops’ backyard.

Sophomore quarterback Cutter Boley, who recently wrapped up his first season at Lexington Christian Academy in Lexington, KY, is now considered a top 15 prospect in the entire country from the class of 2025 by Rivals, which released an updated rankings list on Tuesday. The 6-foot-5 gunslinger shot up 78 spots from Rivals’ most recent ’25 rankings and is now tabbed as the second-best quarterback among the group.

Boley, who is considered a high-four-star recruit by On3, 247Sports, and Rivals, is being recruited to the University of Kentucky by offensive coordinator Liam Coen. Boley has visited UK several times already, most recently making the short trip to campus back in late January for Junior Day.

Boley is going to be an important target for Kentucky until he makes a final decision. While the Wildcats have eyes on a handful of 2025 quarterbacks in addition to Boley — Stone Saunders (PA) and four-star Ryan Montgomery (OH), in particular — he’s still high on the list and would be a massive pickup for the future of the program if the staff can pull off a commitment. It certainly won’t be easy though.

Along with Kentucky, Boley has received scholarship offers from all the big-name schools. He dropped a “first 18” list near the end of 2022 that included the likes of Alabama, Texas A&M, Oregon, LSU, and plenty of others. That being said, he told KSR earlier this year that only some of those 18 schools are high on his list.

“Kentucky, Michigan, Penn State, Tennessee, Florida State, and Miami (FL) are some of the top ones that I like right now that are recruiting me really well,” Boley said. He’s visited Michigan several times already with Tennessee also considered to be heavily in the mix.

The return of Coen as offensive coordinator in place of Rich Scangarello has helped Kentucky stand out.

“Absolutely,” Boley told KSR in January when asked if he was excited to see Coen come back. “I mean, I liked Coach Scangarello, he just wasn’t my type of guy. I really like Coen’s personality. I like Coen a lot better than Rich but yeah I was super excited to see him come back. That was a huge, huge get.

Coen is just easy to connect with. I feel like he’d be a really easy guy to learn from.

During the 2022 season with LCA, Boley threw for 3,901 yards and 36 touchdowns, averaging just over 300 passing yards per game. Rivals indicates that he could be on “five-star watch” if he continues to develop at this rate.
