Lexington Legends take down Florence Y'alls in opener of "Battle of the Bourbon Trail"

There were actual live sports played in Lexington on Saturday–with fans, too!

In the opening game of the “Battle of the Bourbon Trail” series between the Lexington Legends and Florence Y’alls, it was the hometown Legends who came away with a tightly contested 4-3 victory at Whitaker Bank Ballpark.

Following the cancellation of the Minor League Baseball season, several local and familiar faces found their way to the Battle of the Bourbon Trail event. On Saturday, Robbie Ross, a Lexington Christian Academy graduate, was the starting pitcher on the mound for the Legends, giving up just one hit and no runs in one inning. Other prominent Lexington baseball fixtures such as Ben Revere (Lexington Catholic High School) and Lincoln Henzman (LCA) made an appearance, as well.

The Legends knocked in three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to break a 1-1 tie that the Y’alls could not overcome. Florence did manage to knock in two ninth-inning runs, but couldn’t complete the comeback in the end.

Fans were allowed in attendance for the game with limited seating capacity. They were required to wear masks and the ballpark staff checked the temperature of every fan who made it into the gate.

The Battle of the Bourbon Trail is a four-team league consisting of the Legends and Y’alls, along with their secondary teams, the Leyendas and Freedom, respectively. Games are scheduled to continue over the next six weeks, running every Wednesday through Sunday. The Leyendas beat the Freedom during game one up in Florence on Saturday, 4-1.
