There is real buzz for Liam Coen and the Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jacksonville Jaguars announced on Monday that the AFC South franchise would host second interviews with three head coach candidates — Las Vegas Raiders defensive coordinator Patrick Graham, former New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Liam Coen.
One day later there is a ton of buzz for the former Kentucky offensive coordinator to replace Doug Pederson in Duval County. Coen is scheduled to get the first second interview with the Jaguars ownership and general manager Trent Baalke on Wednesday.
Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times is reporting that Coen is considered the favorite in Jacksonville.
“There’s a growing belief that it’s Coen’s job to lose,” writes Stroud. “Not only were the Jaguars impressed with the 39-year-old offensive coordinator when he interviewed virtually a week ago, he’s also most equipped to resurrect the career of quarterback Trevor Lawrence.”

“The best evidence is what he did for Mayfield, who set career highs with 4,500 yards passing and 41 touchdowns and completed 71% of his passes in his first full season under Coen.”
Liam Coen, 39, spent four seasons (2018-20, 2022) working under Sean McVay for the Los Angeles Rams. The former UMass quarterback had two separate one year stints as the Kentucky offensive coordinator in 2021 and 2023. Coen served as McVay’s non-play-calling offensive coordinator for the Rams in 2022 before leaving Kentucky to call plays for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2024. In his first season as a primary NFL play-caller, the Bucs won the NFC South and finished No. 7 in offensive DVOA. Tampa Bay averaged 29.5 points per game and 6.2 yards per play.
The two-time Kentucky offensive coordinator could be a play-calling head coach in 2025.
