The state of Kentucky's highest-ranked football recruit was kind enough to join Ryan Lemond and Drew Franklin for Friday's edition of Kentucky Sports Radio. Standing outside of the press box at Frederick Douglass High School, Jager Burton was excited to talk football following a workout on the field. Currently preparing to compete for a Kentucky 5A State Championship this fall, if the KHSAA does give football the green light in late August, Burton will be ready to make a college decision before the season kicks off. "If we end up having a season, I'm going to try to speed that up as much as possible, really sit down with my family and try to figure that out," Burton said. "But for now, I'm just kind of waiting on confirmation on stuff and seeing if they're going to come out with anything about official visits and all that because I do really wanna take those. Once I commit, I'm not taking any (visits), even if they have them." Before coronavirus canceled official visits, Burton planned on taking trips to Oregon, Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State and Kentucky. The latter two appear to be his top two choices. Of course, Ryan and Drew asked Jager for some thoughts about UK. "They were my first offer. They were the first school to really take a chance on me and I'll always remember that." Burton described the close relationship he's developed with Vince Marrow over the years. "He kind of seems like a high school coach. Like not as close to me as (Frederick Douglass) Coach (Nate) McPeek are, but kind of like that relationship where it's a friend and then a coach. You know they're there for you no matter what and it's not just all about football. They genuinely care about you and want to see you succeed no matter what happens. That's kind of how our relationship is," Burton said. The KHSAA will meet Aug. 20 to determine if high school football will in fact be played this fall. If approved, Burton will have four weeks to make a decision before the Broncos start the season against Henry Clay on Sept. 18.
