Looking Ahead To This Weekends SEC Games

After a pretty telling slate of games last weekend, the SEC is taking the week off with a number of less than stellar games.  Still, with Kentucky playing a pretty important game, Florida facing off against Bama, and Tennessee getting another butt whoopin’ thanks to LSU, there will be plenty of football to go around.  Here is your schedule in full, with my thoughts on each.

Louisiana Monroe (1-2, 0-1 Sun Belt) @ Auburn (4-0, 2-0 SEC) – 12:00 :

It feels like I have to write about Louisiana Monroe every week.  Auburn has been rolling, and if you haven’t had a chance to check out Cam Newton yet, you should before he comes to Lexington.  At least then you can appreciate him, before you hate him.  Auburn wins easily, goes to 5-0, but loses their lead in the SEC West for failing to play a real opponent. (Assuming an LSU victory.)

Vanderbilt (1-2, 1-1 SEC) @ Connecticut (2-2, 0-0 Big East) – 12:00 :

A couple years ago, this game would have been marginally interesting.  Now it’s just sad.  UConn’s two losses came against Michigan and Temple, not terrible teams, but not world beaters.  Vanderbilt has only beaten an awful Ole Miss team.  The fact that this game is at Connecticut means they will probably win… but I could hardly care less.

Kentucky (3-1, 0-1 SEC) @ Ole Miss (2-2, 0-1 SEC) – 12:00 :

After seeing Ole Miss lose to both Vandy and Jacksonville State, most wildcat fans have chalked this game up as an inevitable win.  But to think that would be a mistake.  Ole Miss may not be great this year, but winning on the road is always tough, and we have yet to see how this Kentucky team responds to a loss.  However, I’m confident the coaching staff will stress the importance of this weekends game (and it is very important,) so I’m feeling the Cats.  One million to 2.

Alcorn State (3-0, 2-0 SWAC) @ Mississississippi State (2-2, 1-2 SEC) – 12:00 :

The bulldogs round out an exciting 12 pm kick off in the SEC, facing the Alcorn A’s of Alcorn State.  I really think the home field advantage is what will make the difference in this game.  Dogs win.

Tennessee (2-2, 0-1 SEC) @ LSU (4-0, 2-0 SEC) – 3:30 :

I still don’t feel confident believing that LSU is a legitimate team this year, but they have passed every test so far.  It’s not unlike Les Miles to make a few mistakes and let a win turn into a loss, but it won’t be this weekend.  Tennessee has actually looked better than I expected this year, but they still aren’t very good.  LSU keeps the 5-0 SEC West club alive.

Georgia (1-3, 0-3 SEC) @ Colorado (2-1, 0-0 Big 12) – 7:00 :

Georgia has been the huge disappointment of the SEC so far this season.  Yet, there is a hope.  Serial Jersey seller AJ Green is able make his debut for Georgia this season against Colorado as his suspension has worn off.  I want to think that this makes the difference.  That and the fact that it’s hard to believe Georgia’s streak of awfulness will continue.  But I could see them laying another egg.  Still, can’t in good concious pick a team from the Big 12 to beat an SEC team.  Georgia wins.

Florida (4-0, 2-0 SEC) @ Alabama (4-0, 1-0 SEC) – 8:00 :

This is the game that everyone will be watching this Saturday.  Both teams are coming off their toughest tests to date, narrowly escaping last weekend with their national championship dreams alive.  One teams will likely end on Saturday.  My prediction, Florida will be high off the no pressure defense provided by Kentucky, they will be high off the life changing moment they experienced by being on the same field as Randall Cobb, and most importantly, they will be high off Joakim Noah’s herb.  Bama wins, Meyer retires for the night, and Tim Tebow shows up to cry at the press conference.
