DeMarcus Cousins can finally unpack his bags. Yahoo Sports’ Chris Haynes is reporting that the Los Angeles Clippers plan to sign Cousins for the rest of the 2020-21 season.

Boogie’s second ten-day contract with the Clippers ran out yesterday. He initially signed with the team on April 5 after leaving Houston. In eight games, he’s averaging 6.3 points and 4.5 rebounds in 11.5 minutes while shooting 48.8% from the floor. He’s scored in double digits twice, putting up 11 points and 6 rebounds at Portland on April 20 and 11 points and 8 rebounds at Houston on Friday.

Yesterday, Clippers coach Ty Lue hinted to reporters that the extension was coming.

“Once (Cousins) learns the plays and sets, understands what we’re trying to do defensively, getting in a little better shape, I think he definitely can (help),” Lue said, via the Orange County Register. “We have a month left before the playoffs start, and for him to get a month of just understanding what we’re trying to run, what we’re doing, I think it’ll make us so much better.”

Friday night, Cousins opened up to Bally Sports’ Jim Jackson on his long road to recovery from the various injuries he’s suffered over the past few years, most recently a torn ACL in 2019.

With less than a month until the playoffs begin, the Clippers are in third place in the Western Conference standings behind Utah and Phoenix. They play at New Orleans tonight at 8 p.m. ET.
