This morning, LSU became the latest school to announce its plans to bring students back to campus this fall. LSU Interim President Tom Galligan sent out an email to students and staff detailing the school’s “roadmap” to reopening in August. Here are some of the details:

  • Facemasks required — In accordance with CDC guidelines, students, faculty, and staff will be required to wear face coverings, with special attention given to spaces such as hallways, elevators and stairwells, which are not large enough to provide 6 feet of space between all individuals.
  • Physical distance — Even in the fall, physical distancing of six or more feet whenever possible will be recommended.
  • Random Testing — LSU officials plan to randomly test between 10 and 16 percent of the populations of all LSU System campuses statewide for COVID-19 this fall. Participants will randomly be selected and encouraged, but not required to participate in the testing.
  • Altered calendar — Officials are planning to start the fall semester on schedule, but are considering holding classes on campus through Thanksgiving and then have students finish the remainder of the semester at home online.

Of course, still no word on whether fans will be allowed at football games. Last week, Galligan said the university’s mask policy may extend to games at Tiger Stadium, which makes my face hot just thinking about.

UK is still working on its plan to reopen. On Friday, Eli Capilouto wrote in a status report on UK’s website that the school is still gathering feedback from the campus community on various restart scenarios and collaborating with the University Senate Council on the academic calendar with hopes of having a final plan ready the week of June 8.
