Lynn Bowden, Landon Young named to USA Today All-Bowl Team
Lynn Bowden has been racking up the All-Bowl honors this week, but another Kentucky Wildcat has also been honored for his performance in the Belk Bowl. Bowden and Landon Young were named to USA Today’s All-Bowl Team, Bowden at the all-purpose position and Young at offensive line.
“Young led Kentucky with eight knockdown blocks in the Wildcats’ 37-30 win against Virginia Tech in the Belk Bowl,” USA Today’s Paul Myerberg wrote. “Bowden set an FBS bowl record for rushing yards by a quarterback with 233 and threw for the game-winning score against Virginia Tech.”
Bowden was also named to All-Bowl Teams by the Associated Press, ESPN.com, and Sports Illustrated. In his final game as a Wildcat, he rushed 34 times for 233 yards and two touchdowns. He also completed 6 of 12 passes for 73 yards, including the game-winning 13-yard TD with 15 seconds left, earning the game’s Most Valuable Player honors. Bowden handled the ball on 16 of the 18 plays in UK’s game-winning drive, including converting a pair of fourth downs to keep the march alive.
Young is an integral part of the “Big Blue Wall” who helped Kentucky set new single-season school records of 3,624 rushing yards, 36 rushing touchdowns and a 6.3-yard average per rushing attempt. Just a day after helping the Wildcats win the Belk Bowl, he was honored at halftime of the Sugar Bowl as Captain of the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team. A few weeks ago, he announced he is returning to Kentucky for his senior season.
For another look at just how good Bowden and Young were in the Belk Bowl, I encourage you to read Freddie Maggard’s feature on the final drive from last week.
