The NFL franchise that plays with the biggest chip is the Las Vegas Raiders. The player in the 2020 NFL Draft that plays with the biggest chip is Lynn Bowden Jr. In a classic Raider move, Bowden was matched with this perfect fit after being selected by Vegas in the third round. Bowden Jr. joins UK legend Derrick Ramsey as Wildcat quarterbacks that were drafted to play positions other than QB: Bowden-running back/receiver, Ramsey-tight end.  Raider head coach Jon Gruden and General Manager Mike Mayock are loading up on offensive weapons. Vegas took Alabama WR Henry Ruggs III in the first round and followed that selection up with Bowden Jr. and South Carolina WR Bryan Edwards in the third. The Raiders plan on Bowden Jr. playing a major role.  General Manager Mike Mayock--“Ultimately, he’ll probably be what we call a joker, which is what I love in [Head Coach] Jon [Gruden’s] offense,” Mayock said. “It’s somebody who can do multiple jobs. But day one, he’s going to come in and be a running back. In the SEC two years ago, he caught 60-70 passes as a slot. Last year as you guys know he was quarterback/wildcat. He gained over 1,000 yards. We think he’s one of the most athletic, tougher guys in this year’s draft. We’re going to train him to be running back, if he’s able to do that job, we’ll be able to do some other things with him.” The Raiders are getting an ultra-competitive football player who is vastly popular with the Wildcat fan base. Las Vegas will now be a team that the Big Blue Nation follows closely. Bowden Jr. brings versatility that can make a franchise better in several ways. In addition to playing running back/receiver, the Youngstown native will also be active in the Raider’s return game. Punt returner was a specific need for Jon Gruden’s team.

WHAT BOWDEN’S SELECTION MEANS TO KENTUCKY

Lynn Bowden Jr. the receiver unselfishly volunteered to play quarterback following injuries to QB’s Terry Wilson and Sawyer Smith. By doing so, Bowden Jr.’s selfless example resonates throughout the Wildcat program. ‘Team-first’ can also lead to individual accomplishment. Bowden’s move to quarterback personifies Mark Stoops’ ‘Go to Work’, tough-guy mentality. I’ll take it further; Lynn Bowden Jr. is Kentucky Football.  Bowden Jr. is a Raider. Of course he is. Lynn was born to be a Raider. I’ve been asked what position he’ll play in the professional ranks. The simple yet complicated answer is: ‘Offense’.
