Kentucky's Mark Pope Jokingly Responds to SEC's .500 Conference Record: 'This is Embarrassing'

College basketball coaches and analysts across the country have been fooled by a satirical tweet about the SEC being .500 since the start of conference play. Kentucky coach Mark Pope was not one of them.
Well, yes. Safe to say that for the rest of the season, the SEC will remain .500 in conference play.
After ESPN announcer Karl Ravech mentioned the stat while calling a game, Pope was asked about the stat on Thursday. He didn’t take the bait.
“I think it’s been a really disappointing start to conference play,” Pope said, jokingly. “I feel like we should, you know, I feel like we’re not living up to the expectations, just being at .500 as a conference.

“I just, you know, I’m kind of looking around at the other programs in the league like, ‘Guys, we’ve got to pick this up. This is embarrassing.’ And so we’ll find a way. I believe in this league. I think we definitely have an upside and we’re going to work really hard to get there.”
Ravech, as well as Rhode Island coach Archie Miller, may have taken the bait. Mark Pope did not.
