[caption id="attachment_288404" align="alignnone" width="1200"] UK Athletics[/caption] An answer is expected regarding Kentucky quarterback Joey Gatewood and his quest for immediate eligibility this week. According to UK head coach Mark Stoops, the school is anticipating an answer this week from both the NCAA and the SEC.

“Still waiting on the waiver," Stoops said during his weekly call-in radio show Monday evening. "It’s a two-part process with the NCAA and the SEC because we're going from one SEC school to the other. I feel good about that, but you never know till it's done. Hopefully we hear something this week.

"We have to move forward until we get that final waiver, so we'll see where that goes. I do anticipate getting an answer this week.”

This news goes hand-in-hand with a recent report from Travis Graf of Rivals, who says that Gatewood, who transferred from Auburn to Kentucky in December, has likely been cleared for immediate eligibility by the NCAA, but the matter is now up to SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey. On this morning’s radio show, KSR's own Matt Jones said he has also heard the same. “I can confirm that report,” Jones said. “That’s what I was hinting at last week. That has been true for a while, that the NCAA [has cleared him] but they’re waiting on the SEC.” Graf is also reporting that Kentucky has a“gentleman’s agreement” with Auburn that Gatewood will not play on September 26 as a way to show thanks for Auburn’s cooperation with the waiver request. While Stoops did not confirm that Gatewood will sit in the season opener, the UK head coach did note that he felt all four healthy quarterbacks on the roster - Terry Wilson, Gatewood, Beau Allen, and Sawyer Smith - could play "winning football" from day one. "We've got a lot of options there," Stoops said. "I feel like we're playing winning football with all four of our options."
